ZarZar Paces Lady Tigers to JSU Invitational Win

Lady Tigers take first place

Sept. 30, 2007

JACKSON, Miss. - Sophomore Jemu ZarZar was JSU's top runner Friday afternoon as the Lady Tigers placed first as a team at the Jackson State Invitational. ZarZar finished first overall with a time of 19:44.47 to highlight JSU's winning effort.

"Our intention was to win our meet and we came out and pulled it off," said head coach Pauline Banks. "It was kind of ugly. We had a lot of ladies drop times, but I'm happy with the win and looking forward."

ZarZar was followed by South Alabama's Clarisse Moh, who had a time of 20:29.81 and Mississippi College's Kimberly Armstrong (20:33.62). Forty-five runners completed the 3.2 mile course.

The Lady Tigers will take a week off before competing in the Mississippi College Invitational October 13.

"We want to treat the MC meet as a tune-up for conference finals," said Banks. "It will be a four mile run so getting that one under our belt will also help get us prepared for (NCAA) regionals."

Team Results 1. Jackson State, 39 points 2. Mississippi College, 41 points 3. South Alabama, 72 points 4. Southern University, 90 points 5. Alabama A&M, 122 points 6. Alcorn State, 134 points 7. Tougaloo College, 187 points
