NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Jackson State women's cross country team participated in the Tulane Green Wave Invitational Friday evening. The Lady Tigers finished in second place behind the host team. Jemu ZarZar finished in eighth place in the short two-mile race, behind five Tulane runners and two unattached runners. Jennifer Redman (14th place), Adrienne Smith (17th) and Marlisa Hamlett rounded out the top 20 runners. The Lady Tigers finished with 61 points, behind Tulane's 15. The rest of the field included Southern Mississippi, Southeastern La., Xavier (La.) and Loyola (La.). Cross country scoring is recorded by awarding one point for each place a runner finishes, starting with one. Each school can only score points from their top five finishers in the race, and the fewest points will win the race for a team. JSU's next meet is set for Friday Sept. 7 in Hattiesburg, Miss., for the Southern Miss. Invitational.
