JACKSON, Miss.- The Jackson State women's cross country team finished in fourth place at the 2006 SWAC Cross Country Championships were held at Choctaw Trails in Clinton, Mississippi on Monday, October 30, 2006. The women of Alabama State and the men of Prairie View repeated as champions. In the women's race (5,000-meter run), the Lady Hornets took the top three places and five of the top 15 spots in the race. Leading the group was Jewel Wells (19:38.22) who was named Most Outstanding Performer. Second place went to Crystal Reese while Ashley Hawkins took third. Jemu Zarzar of Jackson State (19:50.72) and Neia Richard of Grambling State (19:57.14) rounded out the top five. Zarzar was named Women's Outstanding Freshman for the event.
In the team standings, the Lady Hornets finished with a score of 27 points. The Grambling State Lady Tigers were second with a mark of 51 points while the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Lady Lions took third with a tally of 86 points. JSU finished with 93 points.
