JSU LADY TIGER VOLLEYBALL SEASON RECAP

Senior Amanda Daniels named to All-Tournament team

Nov. 30, 2007

JACKSON, Miss.- The Jackson State University Lady Tiger volleyball team ended their 2007 regular season with an 17-16 overall record and a 5-3 conference record.

The Lady Tigers traveled to the campus of Prairie View A&M, November 16-17th to participate in the eight game, two-day SWAC tournament, a tournament which showcased the talent of eight participating institutions; all in hopes of clinching the title.

JSU, who had won seven of their last nine matches, went into the tournament ranked third in SWAC East play. Led by seniors, Amanda Daniels, Nicole Walker, Corrina Cox, Kimberly Hendon, and Brittany Lewis, the Lady Tigers opened tournament play versus Grambling State University. The Lady Tigers of Jackson State were defeated by the Grambling State Lady Tigers 3-2, (30-17, 21-30, 25-30, 32-30, 15-9) in the opening match of the tournament. JSU needed to win the next match in order to remain in the race. They did just that.

In their second match of the day, the Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Lions of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 3-1, (30-20, 30-21, 27-30, 30-14) advancing JSU to the next round.

After prevailing in their previous match of the day, the Lady Tigers looked to used that momentum into their third match as took on the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers. JSU would fall short to the Lady Panthers, being defeated in the match 3-0, eliminating them from day two of tournament action.

Senior, Amanda Daniels led the way for the Lady Tigers and was the only Lady Tiger named to the All-Tournament team.

Other honors received by the Jackson State Lady Tiger volleyball team in the post-season include senior setter, Corrina Cox, who was named 1st team All-SWAC. Outside hitter Amanda Daniels was named to the 2nd team.

The team finished their post team action with an 18-18 record on the season.
