ITTA BENA, Miss.--For the second time this season, the Jackson State University Lady Tigers and Mississippi Valley State University Lady Devilettes battle it out, this time on the courts of MVSU. In a match that seemed to go down to the wire, the Lady Tigers prevail on the road clinching a 3-2, (30-25, 30-25, 25-30, 28-30, 15-12) road win, ending a two game loosing streak.
Senior, preseason all conference, Corrina Cox, led the team with 31 assists, 15 digs, 14 kills on 28 total attacks. Pre-season All SWAC, Amanda Daniels, also contributed with 18 kills on 38 total attacks, five digs and one block to help advance the Lady Tigers. Outside hitter, Shatara Baydack, led for the Lady Devilettes with 23 kills on 61 total attacks. The win gives the Lady Tigers its third SWAC win, improving JSU to a 11-14 overall record on the year. With the win, the team also gains its third conference win, giving Jackson State 3-3 record in SWAC action. MVSU Lady Devilettes fall to 5-1 in SWAC East. The Lady Tigers prepare to travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana for a two day tournament on Friday. All games will be played on the campus of Southern University. The next home game for the Lady Tigers is Tuesday, November 6, as they play host to conference rival Alabama State. Match time is set for 7 p.m. |
