JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State University women's tennis team earned a season opening victory over the University of West Alabama Saturday afternoon. JSU beat UWA 5-1 in non-conference play. The Lady Tigers split with West Alabama in doubles play and won five of six in singles play. JSU's Paulina Vargas and Valentina Prado fell 3-8 to Mariana Freitas and Brittany Williams in No. 1 doubles. In No. 2 doubles Angela Rose and Geneva Warren defeated Rachel Hardaway and Amanda Morgan 8-6. In singles No. 1 Vargas defeated Freitas 6-1, 6-3, No. 2 Rose defeated Morgan 6-0, 6-2, No. 3 Prado beat Williams 6-2, 6-4, No. 4 Warren beat Nail 6-2, 6-0, No. 5 Daniella Pimentel lost to Hardaway 0-6, 3-6, and Brittney Berry won by forfeit. The Lady Tigers are 1-0. |
