JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State Lady Tiger softball team won the first game of a Sunday twin bill with the Alcorn State Lady Braves, but could not pull off the two game sweep. JSU won the opener 3-2 and lost the second 12-0. The first game was a pitchers duel, which went 10 innings, between JSU's Jessica Villegas and Alcorn's Elise Powell. Villegas pitched the complete game, giving up only two runs on four hits for the win. She struck out four batters. Powell also pitched a complete game as she suffered the loss. She gave up three runs on six hits. Amanda Boggan led JSU's offensive attack, going 2-5 with a run and a RBI. Villegas helped her own cause as she got two hits and drove a run home. Amber Steeves led Alcorn with two hits. In the nightcap Alcorn's Michelle Lewis picked up the win by shutting down the Lady Tiger bats, allowing only two hits. Brittney Talley suffered the loss as she pitched 4.3 innings, giving up three runs. Villegas came in the fifth inning and gave up nine runs on five hits. Alla Williams and Shannon Tillar recorded a hit each for JSU. Melinda Ellis led Alcorn with two hits, two RBI and a run. Jackson State will return to action April 8 when the Lady Tigers host SE Louisiana in non-conference action. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. |
