HATTIESBURG, Miss.- The Jackson State Lady Tigers softball team traveled to the campus of Southern Mississippi to take on the Lady Eagles in a double-header match at the USM softball complex. The Lady Tigers were defeated by the Lady Eagles in both games, 10-2 (game 1), and 10-2 (game 2) in front of an announced crowd of 670 on-lookers. With the pair of losses the Lady Tigers fell to a 4-8 overall record while the USM Lady Eagles improved to a 7-3 record on the season. In game one, Farren Wright and Michelle Barwig scored the Lady Tigers only two runs of the game, with one run in the fourth inning and one run in the fifth inning of play. The Lady Eagles scored one run in the first inning, two runs in the second inning, five runs in the third inning and closed the game with two runs in the fourth inning of play for a total of 10 runs for the game. Lady Eagles, Chaney, Jones and Hill all had two runs respectively for USM in the game. In game two, Amanda Boggan and Ray Williams would score the Lady Tigers only two runs of the game, this time both runs coming in the first inning of play. After leading the Lady Eagles 2-0 at the top of the second inning, the Lady Eagles would then score four runs to close the second inning with a 4-2 lead. Four runs in the third inning and two runs in the fourth inning was prove enough as the Lady Tigers were defeated 10-2 in the final game of the night. The JSU Lady Tiger seeks to improve their season record as they travel to Natchitoches, LA to participate in the three-day Northwestern State Invitational. The Lady Tigers will take on the Lady Jacks of Stephen F. Austin in their first game of the invitation on Friday, February 22. Game time is set for 1 p.m. on the campus of Northwestern. |
