Nov. 11, 2007
After receiving a bye in the opening round of the 2007 Southwestern Athletic Conference Soccer Tournament the Jackson State Lady Tigers (No. 1 seed in the East Division) were eliminated by Mississippi Valley State in a shootout in the semifinal round. The Lady Tigers fell 5-3. The match was probably the most emotional game of the tournament. With Jackson State clinging to a 1-0 lead after the first period, both teams began to press on both ends of the field looking for the win. A Rochelle Moncrieffe goal in the 23rd minute gave the Lady Tigers the 1-0 lead. MVSU would answer when Meghan Eddy would score unassisted in the 49th minute. The next two goals of the game were scored on free kicks. JSU's Germaine Tuckett would score in the 74th minute while MVSU would respond in the 81st minute on a score by Brooke Falke. After two overtime periods, the match came down to a shootout that saw two one great save by MVSU goalkeeper Maria Del Guercio and five scores by the Devilette coalition. |
