Houston, Tex.--- The Jackson State University women's track and field team finished in the top ten in two events on the final day of the Houston Invitational Saturday. Junior Tayari Clay came in sixth place in the 400 meter dash. Clay finished with a time of 58.16. She also finished 13th in the long jump. Sophomore Lisa Quinn advanced to the finals of the 200 meter dash and finished 22nd with a time of 26.06. Junior Taneika Hill also advanced to the finals and finished 50th. Sophomore Toniece Williams finished 27th in the 400 meter dash. Freshman Kimberly Whalen came in 11th place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:20.37. Three Lady Tigers advanced to the finals in the 1 mile run. Freshman Jemu ZarZar finished 29th, sophomore Adrienne Smith finished 38th and freshman Tunisia Milner finished 45th. Smith also placed in the 3000 meter run (31st). In relay action JSU came in 11th place in the distance medley relay (DMR) and JSU took seventh place in the 4 x 400 meter relay. The 4 x 400 team posted a time of 3:54.41. Sophomore Brittney Woodard finished 11th in the triple jump. Senior Latoya Anderson and sophomore Leadrianne White finished 21st and 26th respectively in the shot put. White finished 27th in the weight throw and junior Deshawnna Chiles and senior Octavia Gadson finished 28th and 31st. Jackson State will return to action Feb. 9-10 for the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ar.
