LADY TIGER TRACK CONTINUES TO IMPROVE

January 7, 2007

LADY TIGER TRACK CONTINUES TO IMPROVE 1/7/2007 Nashville, Tenn --- The Jackson State University women's track and field team finished the 2007 Edward Temple Indoor Classic with a good showing, as the Lady Tigers had eleven top 10 finishes. Tayari Clay took first place in both the 200 m dash and the long jump. In the 200 she finished with a time of 25.22 seconds. In the long jump she recorded a 19'8" leap, which was good enough for a NCAA provisional qualifying distance). She was also the anchor leg on the 4 x 400 team (finished in second place) and the 4 x 200 team (third place). The Lady Tigers took second and third place in the 800 m run. Kimberly Whalen came in second with a time of 2:23.37 and Jemu ZarZar took third with a time of 2:24.02. The JSU distance medley relay team finished in fourth place. JSU also performed well in the field events. Lukina Burks came in second place in the high jump and Brittany Woodard got second place in the triple jump. Latoya Anderson came in third place in the shot put and Deshona Childs finished in fifth place in the weight throw. "We faired pretty well," said JSU women's track and field head coach Pauline Banks. "We still have a long way to go. If we come in and buckle down we should get better and be prepared for the conference meets in February." The Lady Tigers will return to action on Jan. 13 when they travel to Baton Rouge, LA to participate in the Purple Tiger Classic hosted by LSU.
