HOUTSON, Tex. - The Jackson State women's indoor track and field team finished the 2008 Houston Opener with a sixth place finish this weekend. The Lady Tigers recorded 14 top ten finishes. Tayari Clay, Lisa Quinn and Taji Dorsey finished third, fifth and sixth place respectively in the 200-meter dash. Quinn recorded a 25.70 time. Quinn had a 25.87 time and Dorsey's time was 26.01. In the 60-meter dash Courtney Prentiss came in eighth place with a time of 7.71. Quinn secured 13th place with a time of 7.86. In the 400-meter dash Dorsey came in fifth place with a time of 59.19. Marlisa Hamlett finished seventh (59.96) and Candace Frye came in 29th place (1:05.20). JSU performed well in the distance events. In the 800-meter run Tunisia Milner came in 17th place (2:29.94). Jemu ZarZar finished 18th (2:30.72), LaColony Oliver was 24th (2:39.17) and Kimberly Whalen finished in 25th place (2:39.43). ZarZar finished in the top 10 in the one-mile run. She recorded a time of 5:40.45. Milner finished 16th (5:58.90). In the 3000-meter run Jennifer Redman finished in 14th place (12:01.01). Toniece Williams finished in 8th place in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.07. Hamlett came in 14th place (9.60). JSU also excelled in the field events. Amiria Holloman came in fifth place in the triple jump (10.62 meters). Danielle Miller threw for 12.24 meters in the shot put for fourth place. Leadrianne White recorded a distance of 10.95 meters for 10th place. Deshawnna Chiles and Stephanie Cleave came in 14th and 15th place respectively with throw of 10.56 meters.
White, Chiles and Cleave all had better finishes in the weight throw. White finished fourth (13.68 meters), Chiles came in fifth place (13.53 meters) and Cleave took 10th place (11.16 meters). Holloman came in third place in the long jump with a distance of 5.06 meters. |
