HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The 2008 Southern Miss Lady Eagle Invitational concluded Tuesday at the Canebrake Country Club in Hattiesburg, MS and Jackson State's Shasta Averyhardt took home medalist honors as the top individual performer in the tournament. Averyhardt shot a 71 (even par) in both rounds of the tournament for a two day total of 142. This is the second straight tournament where she was the top individual performer. Merielle LeBlanc finished in 12th place with a two day score of 157 (77/80) and Jennifer Sells tied for 23rd place with a 164 total. Nikeya Peay (178 - T-39th) and Amy Breakwell (181 - T-41st) rounded out play for the Lady Tigers. Southern Miss won the team competition with 621 strokes. Louisiana-Monroe was second (622). Marshall finished in third place with 628 strokes. Birmingham-Southern shot a 631 to earn a fourth place finish. West Florida finished in fifth place with 632 strokes, followed by Jackson State (641), Texas-Pan American (652) and Kentucky Wesleyan (724).
JSU will return to action April 19-22 for the SWAC Championships in Choctaw, MS.
