Dec. 3, 2007
JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State women's bowling team had a rough start for the final day of the 2007 Capital City Collegiate Classic at the Cotton Bowl Lanes. The Lady Tigers faced the 2007 NCAA Champions, Vanderbilt University. Vanderbilt earned an 857-746 victory. Next JSU took on the 2004-05 NCAA Champions Nebraska Lady Huskers and the Lady Tigers walked away with a big 909-848 four game Baker win. The Lady Tigers almost pulled off a perfect game (300) against the Huskers, but settled for a 266 game. In the third match of the day JSU fell 14 pins short to Grambling State. JSU fell short 59 pins to the Arkansas State Lady Indians in the fourth match. Although JSU finished the day with a 1-3 record, the win against Nebraska should help the Lady Tigers in the NCAA ratings. "We just couldn't get the chemistry flowing with the Baker games," said head coach Vicky Boykins. "We would bowl a couple of high games, then a low game." Jackson State bowled an average 198 for the Baker format. JSU's Ashley Blakley was named Tournament MVP. Final Results: 1st Place (Nebraska), 2nd Place (Vanderbilt), 3rd Place (Arkansas State), 4th Place (Jackson State), 5th Place (Louisiana Tech), 6th Place (Grambling State), 7th Place (Alabama State), 8th Place (Mississippi Valley State). Jackson State will return to action Jan. 12-13 when the Lady Tigers travel to Baton Rouge, LA to participate in the Southern University Varsity Invitational.
