Position:
Assistant Coach

Tomekia Reed is in her third year as an assistant coach for the Jackson State Lady Tigers basketball team. Reed, a native of Jackson, Mississippi, comes to JSU from South Georgia Technical College, where she served as assistant women's basketball coach for three years.

At South Georgia Tech Reed was responsible for administrative duties, travel coordination, recruiting and advising. She signed two of Georgia's top athletes and one of Mississippi's finest Dandy Dozen players.

Prior to becoming the first assistant coach for the South Georgia Tech program, Reed served as a career transition specialist, working in high schools as a liaison for students transitioning into post-secondary education. Her responsibilities included helping students through the financial aid and application process as well as identifying scholarships and grants.

From 2003-05 Reed was a campus recruiter for South Georgia Technical College. From 2002-03 she worked as a juvenile correction officer for the Sumter County Youth Development Agency in Americus, Georgia.

Reed received an Associate Degree in Sports Medicine from Hinds Community College before attending the University of Southern Mississippi and Georgia Southwestern State University.

At Hinds Reed was named most valuable player, led the team in scoring and rebounding. She was second in the conference in scoring and first in the conference in rebounding. Reed was named MJCAA first-team All-American.

At Southern Mississippi Reed received the coach's award, was named most improved player and helped the team make it to the WNIT versus Georgia Tech. At Georgia Southwestern State she led the team in scoring and was named team most valuable player.

In 2002 Reed received the Peach Belt Presidential Honor Roll Award.

Reed went on to receive a Bachelor's Degree in exercise science from Georgia Southwestern State University. Reed is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and is the daughter of John and Cazinova Reed.
