Tigers have impressive showing at Alabama Relays

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Wilbert Smith led JSU at the 2008 Alabama Relays as he took first place in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.35.

In the 100 m dash Justin Vance finished eighth with a time of 10.78 seconds, Lincoln Lampley came in 12th place and Jaumale Sykes finished 17th.

Debodrick Walton and Justin Vance finished ninth and 10th respectively in the 200 m dash. Walton recorded a time of 21.81 and Vance had a 21.88. Sykes finished 20th and Lampley was 29th.

In the 400 m dash Walton finished second with a time of 48.29 and Allen Senegal was 16th. Courtney Irby was second in the 800 m run with a time of 1:51.95 and Kevin Itima came in seventh place with a time of 1:53.79.

Desmond Lowe finished sixth in the 400 m hurdles with a time of 54.35, Durante Ponder was eighth (55.78) and Dedrick Burnett finished 14th. In the 4x100 m relay JSU finished in fourth place and third in the 4x200 m relay. The Tigers took second place in the 1600 Sprint Medley with a time of 3:26.85.

JSU continued to perform well in the field events. Senegal finished 12th in the long jump, Jason Gunter was 15th and Afolabi Ayanwale was 19th. Ayanwale placed fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 13.97 m and Gunter came in eighth place with a distance of 13.67 m.

Ronnel Jones captured sixth place in both the shot put (14.30 m) and discus throw (42.02 m). Burnett finished 20th in the javelin.
