May 1, 2007 JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State men's golf team is scheduled to participate in the 21st PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship May 11-13 in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Jackson State came in second place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference Golf Championship. Texas Southern overcame a nine stroke deficit to claim the title. "We have a group of guys that will be able to compete in this tournament," said head coach Eddie Payton. "If these kids play up to their potential our chances are as good as any other school's in this field." This year's tournament will feature the largest field in the history of the National Championship. Approximately 180 contestants from 38 colleges and universities will comprise the championship field The 54-hole, stroke-play Championship will be contested on Tom Fazios newly renovated Ryder and Wanamaker Courses at The PGA Golf Club. The three-day event will consist of four divisions: Mens Division I & II; and NAIA Mens and Womens. There is also an Individual Invitational for minority men and women contestants. In addition, a Business of Golf Career Expo, on May 10, 2007, will feature approximately 20 golf companies and associations that will present student athletes with an unique opportunity to learn more about employment within the golf industry.
