MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Jackson State men's golf team opened the fall part of the 2007-08 season with a ninth place finish in the Troy Invitational Tuesday evening. The Tigers finished with a score of 944 over three rounds. The University of New Orleans out lasted host school, Troy, to win the event by a six-shot margin. New Orleans finished with an 885 score and Troy with an 891 score. Liberty University finished in third place (892), Austin Peay State claimed fourth place (899), Samford came in fifth (912), Nicholls State came in sixth (919), Birmingham Southern came in seventh (933), and McNeese State took eighth place (939). Michael Bailey was the top performer for the Tigers, as he tied for 13th place with Liberty's Andrew Nelson with a 225 score. Albert Kilgore came tied for 30th place (232), Reggie Newton tied for 49th place (243), James Cox tied for 51st place (245) and Michael Chappell came in 55th place (259). Jackson State will return to action Sept. 16 for the JSU Invitational in Tunica, Miss.
