PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The Jackson State University men's golf team finished the 2007 PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship in fourth place this weekend. The Tigers came into the final found of play in third place, but could not maintain their place. JSU had a three-day total score of 875. The University of Texas Pan American captured the Division I Men's Team Championship. The Broncos made a furious back-nine comeback to capture the title for the second consecutive year. Texas Pan American shot an 870 score for the tournament. Bethune-Cookman (871) came in second place and Florida A&M (872) claimed third. In individual scoring JSU's Raul Cortes finished in third place. He shot a 215 (70-70-75). Reggie Newton finished with a 216 (75-71-70) over three rounds, which was good enough for fifth place on the individual leader board. Michael Bailey came in 20th place, Rodney Mundia 25th and Michael Chappell finished in 34th place. Over 170 contestants from 36 colleges and universities, representing 13 countries comprised the field for the 2007 PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship. State Farm Insurance and The Golf Channel have combined to produce one-hour Championship highlight programs, which will air on June 6 at 3:00 P.M. E.D.T. and on June 23 at 4:00 P.M. E.D.T.
