JACKSON, Miss. - Jackson State senior wide receiver Jaymar Johnson was taken with the 193 pick of the 6th round of the NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings. Johnson, a 6-1 native of Gary, IN, finished the 2007 season with 36 receptions for 613 yards and seven TDs. He also returned 24 punts for 234 yards and a TD. Johnson was the second pick of the 6th round for the Vikings. Johnson is considered one of the quickest receivers in this year's class, He is explosive as a receiver and return man. He caught 66 balls for 1,140 yards (17.3 per) and nine touchdowns and averaged 10.9 on 43 punt returns (with two scores) in his last two seasons. "I am super excited for Jaymar," said JSU head coach Rick Comegy. "When I spoke with him after his name was called I heard the excitement in his voice. This is not only good for Jaymar, but it is also good for our program. He is a good example for the guys that will play here next year. He does not drink or smoke and he is showing our players the right way to do things (to work hard and be a good person)." |
