Dec. 8, 2007 DES MOINES, IA - Despite three Tigers scoring in double figures the Jackson State men's basketball team lost its fifth straight game, falling 83-69 to Chicago State in the final round of the Drake Regency Challenge Saturday evening. With the loss the Tigers fall to a 1-10 record, while Chicago State improves to a 4-8 mark. JSU shot 35 percent (13-37) from the field in the first half, 66 percent (4-6) in three pointers and 88 percent (8-9) from the free throw line. Chicago State shot 34 percent (19-29) from the floor, 40 percent (4-10) in threes and 87 percent (7-8) from the line. Tigers carried a 38-31 lead into halftime. In the second half Chicago State outscored JSU 52-31. Darrion Griffin led JSU with 19 points on 7-15 shooting from the floor, going 3-3 in threes. Garrison Johnson followed with 13 points, going 6-6 from the line and Grant Maxey scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds. David Holston scored a game-high 32 points on 9-19 shooting. John Cantrell added 17 points and Chidozie Chukwuma finished with 10. Jackson State will return to action on Dec. 21 when the Tigers host UC Davis at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center in non-conference action. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
