Des Moines, IA - The Jackson State men's basketball team lost the opening game of the Drake Regency Challenge, falling 70-64 to the University of Texas -Pan American Friday night. Jeremy Caldwell finished with a team-high 16 points and 10 rebounds, for his first double-double of the season, but it was not enough as JSU falls to a 1-9 record. Grant Maxey and Darrion Griffin each finished with 13 points. Zach Trader finished with a game-high 22 points. Brian Burrell scored 17 points and Nathan Hawkins added 15. The Tigers jumped out to an early lead, building their lead to 11 points at the 6:36 mark in the first half. UTPA cut JSU's lead down to 38-36 at halftime. Jackson State will face the loser of the Drake vs. Chicago State game on Saturday.
