Dec. 1, 2007 JACKSON, Miss. - Despite a combined 35 points from Grant Maxey and Jeremy Caldwell the Jackson State University men's basketball team fell 82-67 to Stephen F. Austin in non-conference action Saturday evening at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center. Maxey led the Tigers with 18 points on 7-12 shooting from the floor and 3-3 from the free throw line. He also dished out a game-high five assists and two steals. Caldwell scored 17 points on 8-12 shooting from the field and went 1-1 from the line. He also pulled down a team high five rebounds. Darrion Griffin chipped in 11 points on 3-6 shooting. SFA's Matt Kingsley scored a game-high 26 points on 11-15 shooting from the field and 4-4 from the line. Gerald Fonzie followed with 19 points on 7-11 shooting. Josh Alexander added 16 points and Eric Bell scored 13. Jackson State trailed 39-29 at halftime. With eight minutes remaining in the second half JSU cut the Lumberjacks lead down to five points on two Griffin free throws. With the loss JSU falls to a 1-7 overall record and SFA improves to 5-1. Stephen F. Austin outscored 43-38 in the second half. For the game JSU shot 49 percent from the field, but Stephen F. Austin connected at a 63 percent rate. Stephen F. Austin out rebounded the Tigers 26-21. Jackson State will return to action Dec. 5 when the Tigers travel to Berkley, Ca. to face the California Bears in non-conference.
