Final Stats

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Despite a game-high 20 points from Tyrone Hanson, the Jackson State men's basketball team fell 62-61 to the Stephen F. Austin Jackson in non-conference action Saturday night.

SFA junior Jordan Glynn laid in a missed tip-in with 1.1 seconds left to give the Jacks the 62-61 victory in the William R. Johnson Coliseum. SFA trailed by five (61-56) with 1:46 to play, but scored the final six points of the game, with Glynn accounting for the last five.

With the loss JSU falls to a 0-3 record and SFA improves to 1-1.

Hanson went 7-11 from the field and 5-6 from the free throw line. He also pulled down six rebounds. Garrison Johnson followed with 18 points on 6-13 shooting from the field and 4-5 from the free throw line. De'Suan Dixon added 12 points on a perfect shooting night. He made all five of his field goal attempts and went 2-2 from the line.

Eddie Williams led SFA with 19 points on 9-15 shooting from the field. Jereal Scott and Walt Harris each chipped in 13 points.

After six first-half lead changes, Jackson State took a 32-25 advantage to the locker room. The Tigers led by as many as 10 in the second period and didn't give up the lead until SFA scored the game-winning basket.

Jackson State led, 61-60, when Johnson missed the front end of a 1-and-1 opportunity. SFA's Scott pulled down the rebound with 32 seconds remaining. After a Lumberjack timeout, SFA worked the ball down low to Glynn. He missed his first attempt, but junior guard Eddie Williams soared in for his seventh offensive rebound of the night. His tip-in attempt was too strong, but Glynn grabbed the loose ball and laid it in with 1.1 remaining to set the final margin.

Johnson got off a full-court desperation 3-pointer that bounced off the back board.

Saturday's meeting was the first of two showdowns between SFA and Jackson State this season. The two will get together again on Dec. 1 at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assemby Center on the Jackson State campus. JSU's next game is set for Nov. 24 when the Tigers travel to Denton, TX to face North Texas.
