Nov. 11, 2007 WACO, TX - The Jackson State University men's basketball team opened the 2007-08 regular season with a 100-76 loss to the Baylor University Bears Sunday night at the Ferrell Center. Jeremy Caldwell scored a game high 21 points in the losing effort. Caldwell went 7-15 from the field and 7-10 from the free throw line. Grant Maxey followed with 14 points and Chris Hyche added 12 points. Kevin Rogers led Baylor with 20 points on 7-10 shooting from the floor. LaceDarius Dunn followed with 17 points, Henry Dugant scored 16, Aaron Bruce added 12 and Curtis Jerrells chipped in 11. At halftime Baylor held a 61-37 advantage. JSU played the Bears even in the second half. Both teams scored 39 points. JSU never led in the game. Baylor's largest lead was 31 points at the 7:09 mark in the second half. "The biggest thing we have to learn is to play against top-notch teams on the road," said JSU head coach Tevester Anderson. "This was our first road game and we will play better." JSU (0-1 overall, 0-0 SWAC) shot 40.3% from the floor, 27.8% in three-pointers and 67.7% from the line. Baylor (1-0, 0-0) shot 60.8% from the field, 47.7% in threes and 82.9% from the free throw line. Jackson State will return to action Sept. 13 when the Tigers travel to Nacogdoches, TX to face Stephen F. Austin.
