Jan. 13, 2008 LORMAN, Miss. - Jeremy Caldwell recorded his third double-double of the season to lead the Jackson State men's basketball team to an 85-65 victory over the Alcorn State Braves Saturday night. With the win JSU improves to 5-11 overall record and a 3-0 SWAC mark, while Alcorn State falls to a 2-14, 1-2 record. Caldwell led JSU's scoring and rebounding effort with 22 points and 11 boards. He went 10-14 from the field and 2-2 from the free throw line. Three other Tigers scored in double-figures. Catraiva Givens scored 20 points on 6-7 shooting (2-2 in three pointers). He also went 6-8 from the free throw line and dished out four assists. Garrison Johnson and Darrion Griffin each scored 13 points. Johnson went 5-8 from the field and Griffin went 3-7 from the field and went 7-11 from the free throw line. Alew Owumi led Alcorn State with 17 points. Anthony Ford followed with 13, Jarvis Williams added 11 and James Kendrick scored 10 points. JSU held a 30-26 advantage at halftime. The Tigers outscored the Braves 55-39 in the second half. For the game Jackson State shot 55 percent from the field and 50 percent in three pointers. The Tigers held Alcorn State to 34 percent from the field. The Tigers will return to action Monday, Jan. 14 to face Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
