Braves no match for re-energized Tigers

Tigers clinch SWAC East Division with win over Alcorn Saturday

May 4, 2008

Game 1 Game 2 Game 3

Alcorn State, MS-- Four Jackson State players had 3 RBIs each to lead the Tigers in a 20-7 victory over Alcorn State Saturday afternoon, avenging two Friday loses.

The Braves won two out of three games in the weekend series, but with Saturday's win the Tigers will hold on to the number one spot in the Eastern Division of the SWAC Standings. Derrick JOHNSON's homer to right field gave the Tigers a three run lead over the Braves in the first inning. The Tigers continued to put runs on the scoreboard in the third when Cortez COLE scored off Willie WESLEY's single to right center.

Alcorn State got on the scoreboard when Terrell Johnson scored off a walk by Jabari Graham. JSU responded with a run by LaDerek Camper. The Tigers increased its lead with another three-run inning. Alcorn State tried to battle back with their own three-run inning. The Braves' changes in the outfield and on the mound were not enough to keep the Tigers from scoring the remainder of the game.

JSU will return to action May 9 and 10 when the Tigers host North Carolina A&T in non-conferecne action.
